Plan to Connect Industrial Area of Zipporit to a Natural Gas Pipeline Threatens Hundreds of Dunums of Land in Turan, Kofer Qana and Al-Mashhad

On January 5, 2010, the National Council for Building and Planning transferred the plan to connect the industrial area of Zipporit to a natural gas pipeline, to the Regional Council for Building and Planning in order to present its notes on the matter.  This is considered a step forward towards approving the plan.

The plan to run a natural gas pipeline from the power plant near Bet-Keshet to the industrial area of Zipporit violates the ownership rights and imposes restrains on 800 dunums of land belonging to the jurisdictional areas of Turan, Al-Mashhad and Kufr Qana, which would limit use of this land to agricultural purposes.

ACAP has announced that the aforementioned plan ignores the needs of the Arab citizens and local councils.   Such a plan would result in Arab citizens suffering damages made from executing plans that don’t even serve the Arab population.
ACAP has added that this industrial area, which is built near Arab towns, belongs to Nazareth-Illit and benefits from the taxes paid by the industrial area, while the Arab towns suffer from the environmental hazards and the responsibility to provide the land.

ACAP has sent letters to the local councils of the affected towns warning them of the dangers in the proposed plan, and is encouraging them to work together to prevent the approval of this plan.  ACAP also urged local councils to meet with the local planning committee to present their notes and objection to this plan and demand that their objections reach the National Council for Building and Planning.
